Member since: 2007I just started working on this request piece for an elite Mandalorian warrior named Garen Starfall. Here is the first pencil sketch.
Let me know what you think, and what needs to be changed or added before I take it to the next step.
UPDATE: here is the corrected pencil sketch with added blaster pistol. I also cleaned the pic up a bit. Let me know about any other changes needed before moving on to the next step.

The colors are done, except for the background. Let me know what needs to be changed.
UPDATE 4:
Fixed the hair a bit by adjusting the hue and saturation of the blues and cyans in it to make it look more black. Let me know what you think.

Wow, I love that! I think that's coming along REALLY great!. There never seem to be enough Mandalorian images in the world. This will be a nice addition. :-)

I like the pose, and the slightly customized look of his beskar'gam. Pretty neat job.
I have lots of Mando characters myself, so if you need more work/inspiration, maybe you'd like to take a personal request from me? :P
One other thing that I noticed: his left boot looks too large, while the right one looks proper with the foreshadowing taken into consideration.
Its just looks great man, thank you so much. I am really liking this so far you really nailed it.
I think I left out that he has two blaster pistols so if you could throw another on his left hip that be awesome if not I wont miss it much.
YEah, you did leave that out, and I will add it in. That is why I posted the sketch. That way I can get feedback on what changes need to be made.
That's what's so wonderful about the new WIP blogs. Requesters can see (and approve) the work in its early stages. I think if I'd had to wait until after I'd posted the pic to find out I had forgotten an element the requester was looking for, I'd pull my hair out.
I must add my appreciation for the custom job on the Mandalorian armor. Very impressive! I can't wait to see this in color!
That is why even back with the old version before the blogs, I would always email proofs directly to the requestor to get feedback from them. This just makes it easier.
I like the update, but I still think his left foot is too big. :P

Corran, the left boot is definately not too big. I checked. Remember, there is a foot in there. The foot itself is the same length as the forearm as it should be.
The left boot being too large just an illusion created from the angle at which it was drawn, I think. He looks really awesome!

I cant begin to thank you enough for how much effort you have already put into this. It simply is awesome, I couldnt possibly ask for more.

I like the color scheme, but I think you made his armor a little bit too shiny (unless that was the intention, dunno)... I'd have expected a more roughed-up and battleworn armor for such an elite Mando.
But (!), that doesn't mean it looks bad, technically the colors are top-notch, especially the shading is really great. Well done ;)
It was the intention. An elite warrior, would keep his armor as pristine as possible, even with battle damage, dings and such, he would keep his armor polished and servicable. As for the color, Topgun said he wore blue armor with gold detailing on the shoulder pads, knees pads and helmet around the visor, so that's what I gave him. I don't mind, it's one of my favorite color scheme too. Blue and gold were my highschool colors wat back when. :D
that looks great, the reason i chose blue and gold was because those are my highschool colors as well. And I liked how they went together. And his armor would be well cleaned going into most battles, wearing battle worn armor isn't very wise so he would do his best to clean and repair it as much as possible before battles.
He would be cleaning and polishing it immediately after battle, not so much immediately before, so that it doesn't oxidise and mildew from the salt, dirt, carbon, blood, and perspiration from battle. Before battle, he would definately give it a good inspection, but the real clean-up and repair is usually done the first chance you get after any given battle. IF you wait until before your next battle, it may be too late.
Im hesitant to ask this of you after so much work you've put in already but that blue hair is just killing me. He just seems...blue to an extreme almost. Brown, black, or blonde would be better. It probably my fault since I really didn't specify so I'll take any and all blame for it. If you really are overworked or just tired with it keep it blue and I'll live with it. Sorry.
IT's not a problem. Black hair usually tends to have blue highlights as a rule, though that does depend upon the ambient lighting. IT just means that I have to add some more black lines and some more white.

Like I said, I am really pleased with this. I really wish I could thank you more for your efforts, the whole piece is truly amazing.
