Member since: 2007Just a little preview of Darth Wrayth, my first SWAG project in over a year now. The first image comes from a doodle I did this afternoon while taking a late lunch. It is done in pencil on the back of a menu.
While there were certain aspects of the menu Wrayth that I liked, I eventually decided to stick with a cleaner more polished look and redesigned certain aspects when I got home from work this evening. I'm still not entirely satisfied with it, and I think making it more cartoony may have been the wrong direction for this particular piece.
A couple of tries later (including an alternate pose that was nice, but didn't work for this particular request) produced a hybrid about halfway between the first and second attempts. Not too shabby. Now... on to colors.
A long break on this, but I'm finally working on some of the colors. I started to lay down flats, but decided about halfway through to make this something of a study on violet light. I thought it would fit the character well to be illuminated with nothing more than the reflected glow from his blade.

Looks cool. He reminds me of a mad scientist with the googles.
I've had the same thoughts all through the project. I tried to minimize that effect for a while, but I finally just embraced it as part of the character. I think that coloring the jacket black will go a long way towards eliminating that pesky mad scientist look.

Very, very cool...I can't wait to see the final results!
When the Cat's a Stray, the Mice will Pray.
I've started on the colors. Still very rough at this point. I need to work on the shadows and whatnot, and I am going to end up doing the whole thing in shades of violet, to make it really moody. Hope you like it so far.

I see where you're going with this. And it should be awesome.
