Death of a Padawan

When I came across Lord Crumb's request for a "Mourning Jedi Master", I immediately thought of a concept I had about five or six years ago, of a Twi'Lek Jedi holding a dead padawan. So, as I already had a clear idea of what this would look like, I decided to pick it up.

The first image is my rough sketch I did when I accepted the request. It probably looks alot like the original sketch I did way back when. I should try to dig it up sometime, it'd be interesting to compare. Note the right had is kind of sketchy looking, as I was having trouble trying to figure out where to put it. Also, around this time I decided I'd take some license (Sorry Crumb!), and have the padawan's lightsaber on the ground near his empty hand, rather than have the Master holding it, as it kind of looked like the Master had killed him.

Next I busted out poser, and put the characters into the pose I wanted. Note that this isn't something I always do, but I'm really finding it to be an invaluable tool for helping me frame what I want, and check out lighting conditions before I really get started. Also saves alot of time, and creates the perfect reference.

Next step is drawing the characters over the top of the poser template. Note that it's the same Twi'lek Jedi that's been in my gallery, like, forever. There's some color on there because I f'ed up while I was working on it, and accidentally painted on the line art layer a few times. Oops.

Finally, the finished product, which you'll have to wait a little longer to see!
