New request from mev186:

"I'd like to request a picture of Arik's Master, Hana Kumori. She was born on Atrisia. Which seems to be based off of China or Japan . So her features would be predominately Asian. She is tall with long black hair. And despite being close to 50, She looks deceptively young. She could pass for a woman half her age. However, this is offset by her cold and seemingly uncaring demeanor. She often looks uninterested or even bored, almost arrogant. She usually keeps to herself and is usually avoided by the students of the academy for fear of angering her. When not in her quarters, She is usually found near the Cherry Blossom Tree. So perhaps a solid background with a few pedals floating by would be neat."

I think you've done a good job capturing the attitude of the character the way the requester's described her!!

Mercy

Base colours up.
Just having a play with patterns for her clothing. Will load a few and you can let me know what you think, k?

Mercy

I think I'm leaning towards preferring the first set of patterns, what do you think?

Tusserk

Hmmm. I think I definitely like the patterning on the blue sections from Image 3 the best... but I also really like what's going on on the main part of the dress in Image 4! It would probably be all a bit 'too much' if you were to combine the two, d'you think?

Mercy

Yeah, I did have a go at putting ALL the patterns on at once. It looks a bit busy, but mostly I didn't go with it 'cause mev had said she wasn't flashy - like, she doesn't wear jewellery, etc. 'A Jedi needs not such things' ;o)
So I have to balance a little. I want embellishments, 'cause otherwise it's a bit boring, but I don't want to go off-character for her either...

Trisskar

hehe honestly I think I like the plain blue more. With the patterns in the gray area. Putting patterns in the blue area seems to make it all a bit too busy...

Xanamiar

I like the first one.. I think it's just a little to bright. It jumps otu way to much. I love the colar in the first one though. Very nice.

I'd just make the pattern darker, so it blends better with the black, and leave the colar alone. Oh, and leave the belt plain, maybe even make it white, or gray.

kalenath

Myself, I kind of like image 1, the one with no patterns.

Not overblown, not overpowering, just kind of 'I am here, deal with it.' I dunno. Maybe that is just me.

Tusserk

I'm imagining that the blue part would become a lot more subtle and gentle on the eyes once all the shading and depth is added to the piece, right? It is very bright at the moment, for sure, but that's what I figured would happen.

I'm still hard pressed to decide whether I think I'd prefer the patterns of Image 3... or of Image 4, but with the blue areas left plain. Hummmmm, thinking.

Mercy

Ooh, so hard to decide!!
Have loaded a new image with patterns on the grey dress and on the Cumerbund thing, but none on the blue so you can see how it looks.
Also, pattern on the dress is different again, just to make the decisison yet more difficult...

Mercy

I just can't help myself...
One last Patterns load - the grey dress has pattern just in the upper half, which looks less busy. I also agree with Xan's comments and altered the tone of the blue bit to be less bright, and toned down the cumerbund to be a more subtle colour.
Look a bit better?

Xanamiar

I really like the most recent one.. but I think the bottom of her dress needs something extra.. maybe the first pattern on it.. .. maybe the first pattern, but smaller...

Just my thoughts.. Love the seperate look though in this last one.

Mercy

Cheers!
Here's a copy with the original pattern on the bottom part of the dress. I'm worried it's getting a bit busy though...

Xanamiar

LOL.. before I even looked at your comment I thought... "That looks too busy." Though I love the new look of the other pattern.. the pattern can be seen a lot better...

So, new suggestion.. take off the pattern, but make the dress darker, maybe... If you think so :)

Mercy

Cheers man! I think you're right on both counts. So I've had a play with the pattern blending and made the old pattern on the top part lighter and more noticable (like I did with the flower pattern) so the tone of the lower part of the dress matches it.
I won't post a copy yet, cause the shading will darken it so I'll post again once that's done - can still change the patterns at that point...

Mercy

Cool Xan!
Will load what I have so far - and also the same pic with the patterned under-skirt.
Choices!! I don't know which I like...

Mercy

Okay, this is about done...
Mev, let me know what you think - I can still change the patterns, and I'm still humming and harring about the lower skirt pattern.
'Sup to, man!

Tusserk

Ahahaaa, and in the time I've been to work, come home and had dinner you've finished it! Definitely liking the finished product... I'm getting a real feeling of 'coolness' from her, a great sense of the character.

Xanamiar

Personally, I like the last one the most. I definately like it better with the pattern than without. It brings the whole picture together better, I think.

But like you said, it's up to Mev :)

Mercy

Thanks! Yeah, I think I like it as is - but I'm easy with it.
This one seemed to take very little time to do... I'm worried I've missed something!!

Xanamiar

So, which do you like better Mev?... with or without the pattern on the dress?... I'm curious... :)

Mercy, I love the highlights in the hair... it's SWEET!
