I found this great page on MSN groups with tutorials on how to use Photoshop and Painter for illustration while googling for "painter+tutorials".
Those are pretty tight. Which reminds me, do people still prefer Painter Classic over the current incarnations? I used to hear alot of people say that Classic was way better. Is this still the case?
Hey, CCR. Long time no see.
IMHO, Painter X is the bees knees (although I still really hate some parts of it). It just seems a little less arcane than Classic, easier to manage your special brushes and custom palettes and all that.

Ghost! 'Sup dude!
I think I have a version of IX hanging out on my computer. I've tried learning it, and the interface is easy enough to figure out for the most part, but I think I usually find myself bewildered by the brush options.
Also, using Painter after Photoshop for so long is a bit weird to me. But lord, how I desire painterly effects!
I'm just glad they got rid of that creepy icon from IX with the nine fingered hand and went back to a paintbrush for X
