Female Manda'lor

A request by Milka, made for a friend in his group. First PS illo, so any help/comments/crits are welcome!

Whereas the initial pencil drawing looked too medieval and fantasy like to me, the colored version doesn't at all.

Great job, I especially like the design of her torso armor, as well as the cape. Well done! :D

Ubiqtorate

My first thought when I saw the WIP blog for this was, "Oh, great, another female Mandalorian..." I like the way this one turned out, though. There seems to be a certain feminine quality to her armor, especially the helmet, and she's not the slinked-out, oversexed fanboi fantasy that some of the other female Mandalorians have been.

While I still hope that female Mandalorian pictures remain as rare as the huntresses they supposedly represent, this is a nice addition. Good work.

That's a rather chauvinistic sentiment, Ubiqtorate. Where is it written in stone that female Mandalorians aren't as common on the battefield as males? In Mando'ade culture, women are expected to fight just as well, if not better, than men.

Thank you all for your comments. I worked hard at creating a female character that wasn't about sex, kind of like a female scorpion; feminine and deadly.

I like the armor, but the helmet doesn't look like what I had in mind. Also her upper arms and legs are totally unprotected. I would like to see her in a full body armor with a new and unique helmet. The KOTOR comic series offers a wide range of new helmet designs, e.g. Rohlans helmet. This looks too cartoon-like to me. More armor and another helmet is what I would like to see.

Well, as they say, beggars can't be choosers. I'm not speaking in any official kind of capacity, but personally, I think this is a darn good piece. If it isn't exactly what you pictured, well that certainly can happen whenever dealing with people who can't read each other's minds.
and let's face it: The helmet?

[e]"Her helmet should be unique. Looking quite different than that of Boba or Jango. Maybe with another type of visor or so. Maybe somewhat like the design of Marrow Sun's comamndo on the dented helmet forum (http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20654). But that's only a suggestion.[/e]

Leaves lots of room for interpretation. You're saying "I want it different, but the same, but different....but it better be what i have in mind, or I won't like it."

You don't have to use it if you don't like it.

Batty is certainly free to do up another version for you, if he wants to, otherwise you are within your rights to put out another request, and hope another charitable artist is willing to bless you with their hours of artistic labour.

Batty put up several work in progress blog posts, and if you didn't post your preferences then when there was time to influence the process, then you certainly can't be all that surprised at the finished product.

Merry Lifeday.

Well Milka, I'm sorry you didn't like the piece. As Dredwulf60 has supposed, I spent a lot of hours on this request. I had posted some work in progress for the purpose of getting some feedback from you. Since I had received none, i went ahead with my plans.

Long story short, the finished piece is the finished piece. I could probably spend another 40 hours or so on it and even then, you may not be satisfied. If you were paying me, then that would be different. I would take your request and make sure it's exactly what you want. That's the way things work in a business relationship.

but this is a funds-free relationship. and I believe it really works here, it really does. Free request, free artists, free art. Fantastic things happen here, all for free.

For everything else, there's Mastercard.
