Lasi Tanish (Jedi) WIP
I just started working on a new requested piece for Ryavar Darek for his character Lasi Tanish.
Here is the first WIP pic. Let me know of any changes needed.
UPDATE 1:
The inks are done. Let me know if there are any changes needed before color.
UPDATE: 2
Colors are done except for the background. Trying to come up with the embroidery, and pull it off, was tricky. I ended up doing the four main verses of the Jedi Code in Aurebesh along the vertical hems of the tunic skirts, though, you can only see three (The first, second, and fourth). Her belt buckle and shoulder clasps are also adorned with obsidian. Let me know if there are any changes needed.
UPDATE 3:
The background is DONE! Let me know if there are any changes needed before it goes up. By necessity, the final image is larger than the 640x640 image size.

I love the pose! I must say tramp, as a constructive crit... your line work is fantastic. I really love it. But I'm not so hot on your last 3 work's coloring technique. They're too... harsh. I did really like your character coloring for the hippie jedi though. Just thought I'd throw that out there. :-)

Remember, the one piece is a year old. Also, the coloring choices depends entirely upon the subject matter. There is a big differencs between portraying Mandalorians in armor and portraying Jedi, particularly pretty, young girls dancing through the woods, or serene young women in meditiation. So, yeah,"harsh" was what I was going for on those last two.

Oooh... I love it! Particularly the treatment of cloth in this one. Will be watching its progress avidly!

I've got to say it... I really ADORE this picture already. Very nice... The pose, the look on her face... everything is SO completely AWESOME... I'm looking forward to seeing the end results on this as well...

Great design
I like that it isnt a stereotypical jedi design (Note the clevage) Very nice so far.

The atypical tunics were deliberate. Jedi don't wear uniforms. They're individuals. Why should they all look alike or wear the same style clothes?

Looks awesome - I'm anxious to see the further progress.
At least something to do in the next few days(I'm currently ill) ^^

I love the sketch of this. The pose, the attention to details in the clothes, all of it well done. I can't wait to see this one done.

Yeah, for her tunic, I pulled out my copy of "How To Draw Manga: Bishojo Around the World". It has a good selection of images , including costume pics from various cultures. Another book I used for reference is "How to Draw Manga: Costume Encyclopedia Vol.1 Everyday Fashion". They're great resources, as is the rest of the series.

I can't wait to see the final image on this one. She's such an atypical jedi, but is still so obviously serene. I can't wait to see what environment you choose to put her in.

Thanks. I have a solid idea of what I want to do for the background, though, I'm not sure I'll be able to pull it off. We'll see. If it works, you will definately like it.

Well I don't want to repeat myself, so I simply say look at what I said about the sketch ;)

I'll take that as an approval then.
Are there any particulars you want in terms of the color of her pants or boots, or what type of "ornamentation", you were referring to in your description? I have an idea of you I would do, which would be very subtle and small, but I need your feedback.

Well the pants and boots just have to fit to the rest of her clothes.
As an ornamentation I thought of something subtle but on on various spots symmetrically aligned to each other on her tunic, which should create an harmonic impression.

Are you talking pins and broaches, such as the clasps at her shoulders, or are you thinking embroidery, like symbols and such, sewn into the actual tunic? I would lean more towards the former based on the style of clothing, but it is your call. The only way to make embroidery work would be along the edges.

I talked about embroidery though one or two additional pins or broaches wouldn't be wrong ^^

Great work. Really like it.

I'll take that as approval then.
Next step is the background. It's gonna be the real challenge. If I can pull this background off, you will be blown away. I promise.

I wish you good luck, whatever background you have in mind.

Harmony is the word for this Jedi, its really well done as of now, in fact only one thing come in mind to change of take into consideration.
That would be that a lightsabers centercore allways is white and that the "colour" of the blade is only the outer edge sort of speak, and that its only the "white" part that does damage when it hits something the colour is only for the Jedi so that he or she can focus on it as a part of oneself better...
Besides that, sweet looking gal that is indeed!

I love the embroidery on the edges. Great stuff there. Are you going to leave the cloak white/gray? or going to go w/ the typical browns or what?

It stays white (at least if Tramp sticks to my request ;)). I think it fits better to her than the traditional robe.
As a plus you even could interpret her white robe with the black embroidery as a Star Wars version of yin and yang out of the view of a harmonic jedi.

To shadowWalker. The colored core is deliberate, and is, in fact, how a lightsaber really would look, not white at the core. Colored light shows the brightest, most intense form of that color at its core, not white. Even a number of movie shots will show the cores of the lightsabers with color to them, especially the close-ups.

I absolutely love the work so far.. very nice indeed.. and Tramp is right.. The reason it looks white in the middle is because of the lighting during the movies... in pitch black a lightsaber indeed shows a perfect balance of the color it puts off, but is brighter, making the traditional blue and green sabers look like they have a white core. If you look carefully enough, there is a bright center in the middle of her saber with the correct coloring.. ((besides, even if the core in the middle was completely white, no matter what angle you are at, it will have color to it, since the out side of it is colored, and it's a cylinder of light :) ))

Looks great, I can't see a thing that has to be changed, so: I can't wait to see the finished one in BIG.
