Oma Yksilo

I never actually heard back from the Requester about this one, and though I'm loath to flood the 'newest images' line-up I have a few of these old blogs backed up now and waiting to go to gallery. So here is Omapainen Yksilo - Jace.Terrik reliably informs me that this means 'stubborn individual'. He is Kiffar, hence the tattoos, and is a smuggler turned Jedi flying with the 'Lucky Strike'.
The Blog is HERE, and has the rest of the Request for him.

Lord Crumb

Always a great to look at your pictures. He looks slightly crazied and that uncertain quailty will unbalance an opponent in combat allowing him to deliver the fataly blow.

-LC :-D

Yep. "Omapäinen Yksilö" means exactly that. It's Finnish and I speak it fluently. ;) And Mercy, seriously, you're turning out to be one of the most prolific and talented artists on SWAG.

Seriously, how do you find the time AND the skill?

"Cut to the cheese already!"

Mercy

Aw, that's sweet! Thanks!

Really, Finnish?! My real name (if you can decipher it from the signature) is Finnish - my Mum thought it was sexy... And you speak it fluently? That's so cool! I can swear a bit in Finnish, but that's about it.

As to the question; find the time and the skill will come. I've been looking back over my old work since coming to SWAG and I think I've improved a lot, mostly from doing more and more work and getting such great feedback from everyone. I do love it here!

*big stupid grin*

Jace.Terrik

"Arja", right? It is a common - and sexy - enough Finnish name that I remember intending to ask you about it when you accepted my request for the Samuac.

Anyhoo, one thing that I'm pondering upon is the "Lucky strike"-logo in the background. Was it intended to refer to the cigarette brand, and if so, was it part of the original request? Just curious.

"Cut to the cheese already!"

Mercy

Yes, very common, I'm told. Though I've never met anyone else with the same name! I've never been to Finland, myself, but have always thought of it. Is it nice to travel to? I have this mental image of saunas, snow, pine trees and Moose. But you must get that all the time!

The logo is a take-off of 'Lucky Strike' cigarettes. I don't know if you get them where you are, but they're kind of iconic as an American brand. I used to smoke them, myself. I don't think it shows up very well now but it does say 'Made in Kiffar' on the logo itself, in place of the 'Made in USA' that the pack reads.
Since his ship was called the Lucky Strike, I thought I would be cheeky and make the logo for the ship like the logo for the cigarettes.

(line reset after edit)

Mercy

No, the ship name wasn't requested to be painted as the cigarette logo - I just thought it would be fun! I do wish the requester had come back though, I'm quite pleased with this one in particular, and I would have liked to hear back from him... Oh well.

Jace.Terrik

Heh, we seem to be editing posts as we go. Chatting would be simpler.

Anyhow, yeah, it's a common mental image, and a true one, to an extent. But unlike most people think, we don't have polar bears walking the streets. We do have cities and civilization up here, but in the more rural parts of the country, we really do have the iconic winter landscapes, suitable for kids (and adults!) wanting to re-enact the battle of Hoth. Just add pine trees and snowballs.

Of course, that's in the winter. The summers here are usually very hot and very dry, so it's not all icicles and snow castles.

And to answer your question: yes, it really is worth seeing. Just drop me a line if you ever need a tour guide. Actually worked as one during a summer break, so I'm qualified. So, other than an your name and an aptitude for cussin' in Finnish, can I assume you have a connection to Finland?

And just to keep a semblance of sticking to the topic, I actually did notice the "Made in Kiffar"-thing. Funny. I was more of a Chesterfield-person myself, back in my rebellious youth. But that's a story for another post, I think.

"Cut to the cheese already!"

Mercy

heh heh!

I have no real connection to the country, no - the name came about 'cause my Mum met a lady called Arja when she was pregnant with me and liked the name. I inherited it, and a stuffed toy dog called Rufus, but I have no memory of the lady herself as the family lost contact with her very early on. I've since met a Katja and an Anja, but very few other Finnish people. (I did read the Moomintroll stoies as a child, but I don't know it counts!) But yes, if I ever make it over you'll be the first to know - it sounds lovely!

As for the smoking thing, I'm only a week into quitting and it's only cause of this pneumonia that I'm even doing that! So keeping up with the drawing is something to do with my hands, I guess...

Jace.Terrik

Well, Moomin is kinda of a swedish/finnish-thing... it's hard to explain, but since Tove Jansson - the author - had links to both Sweden and Finland, the Moomin-character is embraced by both countries. Of course, now it's an international thing.

And as for your smoking, or lack thereof: hope you get well of the pneumonia soon. I'm sending reinforcing thoughts in your general direction. :P

Oh, and the art is nice, too! :) (<- a failed attempt at keeping on-topic)

"Cut to the cheese already!"

Mercy

Ha ha! Yeah, the topic kind of died there, huh?

Thanks for the thoughts of wellness. I'm feeling better already!
