Surprise Attack

Pino'Chett defending herself from a surprise attack.

For someone who claims background work isn't easy, you did one heck of a great job on it :)

I got lucky,, there are some things I'm a little unpleased with, but I am working more on BG's. Experimenting with perspective and color.
I have to work more on over all concept straight away, instead of focusing on the main figure then working a BG afterwards. ;)

Accidentally created a double post so I'm editing it with this. ;)
Had to get a new WACOM tablet today. My Graphite tablet's stylus died. Got the Bamboo, getting use to the new stylus.
Hence the accidental double post which is no longer here. :) lol

Did you create the background yourself from scratch? Or have you made it up/edited it from previously existing images? I'm always hopelessly curious about the processes people go through to create their pieces- either way, you've done a nice job tying it in with the figure of Pino'Chett!

I have a folder full of Sci-Fi backgrounds landscapes and 3D environments that I use. I have a few that I've made myself when I have a concept in mind. But most are composites that I build up then retouch shade, colors and hues to blend together to get the desired feel.
I'm still learning how to use the perspective, warping and vanishing point tools.
And have yet to learn how to make patterns, but making and using textures in both filter and pannel use I've gotten much better at.

I wanted to add this. In my travels and durring hurricane Katrina, I've lost everything I've ever drawn. All I have left is pretty much what you see here and on devient and my art-blog. After Katrina I started to save tons of reference pics in various folders, mostly Star Wars related images, cause I wanted to get away from D&D and Saga had recently come out. Up until three years ago, all the art I had done was all in pencil & ink, no digital art, and it was all fantasy and gothic related. The past three years I have decided to focus on Star Wars and digital medium. I guess I'm trying to catch up with the times. lol. I no longer have the income I use to before the storm so classes in digital art, well just ain't happening yet. But I do watch the tutorials when I get the time and experiment as much as I can.
I really do appreciate the complements and any critiquing that comes my why.
Thanks guys. ;)

John, Not a fan of the lasers, from a practical point of view, not an art one.

To me, her facial expression doesn't really suit a padawan who has a spray of near simultaneous blasts being fired at her...and the one she is deflecting is definitely not the one she SHOULD be deflecting.

For me it destroys any feeling of realism it might have otherwise.

JohnGWolf

Thank you dred, I agree with you.
The lasers do take away from it.
and her expression other than she is looking in the right direction is a bit blank. Good thing I keep the psd files. ;) lol

Well, I wouldn't say blank, so much as her facial expression is saying 'Hey, this is kinda fun...I think. I mean...it seems fun...except that I nearly lost my leg to a blaster bolt...but, oh well...trust in the force...I guess. Did I leave the stove on?'
