FP-B6 FIGHTER POD (mini-rig)

The FP-B6 Fighter Pod is a small fighter craft similar to the B-Wing fighter developed by Admiral Ackbar. It has a small rotating gyroscopic cockpit, two sets of main cannons and a small forward blaster on it's nose. A small 'Micro' hyperdrive engine with four thruster pods is mounted behind the cockpit and delivers suprisingly powerful thrust capacity. The main appeal of this model is cost and storage capacity--with it's folding wing struts, you can store eight of these small fighters in the space that normally holds for large fighters.

This design is a throwback to the old Kenner 'Mini-Rig' vehicles from the 1980's. It is meant to work both as an actual ship concept or as a toy design.
If you remember those toys, you know they were designed to fit one to two figures and be inexpensive. They were meant to be vehicles that could have been in the background or off-screen in the large battle sequences and are some of the first examples of 'Expanded Universe' design for Star Wars.
